Baidyanath Dham is one of the prominent Hindu pilgrimage spots, located in Deoghar district of Indian state of Jharkhand. Situated in the Santhal Parganas, the temple complex houses the holy temple of Baba Baidyanath with a Jyotirlingam enshrined within its sanctum and 22 other holy temples. Besides being a popular tourist attraction, the site is a home of Shiva-Baidyanath Temple.
Shivaganga earlier known as Varvoghar kund, was founded by Ravana, when he made a blow with his fist on the earth. At that time a huge water stream came out and formed a pond, which is presently known as Shivaganga. It is also believed that at this site Ravana handed over the Shivalingam to Lord Vishnu, who was disguised as a Brahmin.
Located at a distance of 200 m from the Baidyanath Temple, the present shape of the pond was constructed by the Zamindars of Lakshmipur estate. Further, it is also believed that Ashwini Kumaras, renowned as doctors of gods, took bath in this pond and cured themselves from diseases.
Kathikundis one of the popular tourist attractions in the destination, which houses a Dhaninath Temple. An annual fair organised during the month of February and March attracts many devotees and tourists to Kathikund.
Tapovan is another holy site located at a distance of around 10 km from Babadham. The site houses a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is popularly known as Taponath Mahadeva. Tourists can witness various caves on this hill, which served as a site for penance of Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari and Sage Valmiki. One of the prime attractions of the site is the cave, which has a Shivalingam enshrined in it.
The Trikut Hills
The Trikut Hills situated at 14.3 km from Deoghar on the way to Dumka have gained fame as Trikutachal, one of the best places of tourist interest in the Jharkhand region. This place also gained fame as the only tourist spot in Jharkhand having the famed vertical ropeway. It takes merely 7 minutes to reach the top of the hills by the ropeway.
